Video: 2016 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡

ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ held its 14th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Jan. 28 in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. The keynote speaker for the event was Joy-Ann Reid, national correspondent for MSNBC. The commemorative event also recognized the 2016 recipients of ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡â€™s Diversity Trailblazer Award, which honors diversity pioneers associated with ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡, and Unity Award for Diversity, which recognizes the contributions of any ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ unit that demonstrates significant contributions in the areas of diversity, equity, and/or inclusion.

The ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ Board of Trustees today established a comprehensive, national search to recruit and select the university’s 13th president.

 

The events of May 4, 1970, placed ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ in an international spotlight after a student protest against the Vietnam War and the presence of the Ohio National Guard ended in tragedy with four students losing their lives and nine others being wounded. From a perspective of nearly 50 years, ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ remembers the tragedy and leads a contemporary discussion and understanding of how the community, nation and world can benefit from understanding the profound impact of the event.
